A small, red bump, similar to the bump of a mosquito bite, often appears at the site of a tick bite or tick removal and resolves over a few days. In the majority of cases, it is successfully treated with oral antibiotics. What is chronic Lyme disease? In some patients, symptoms, such as fatigue, pain and joint and muscle aches, persist even after treatment, a condition termed “Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS)”.

Patients who believe they have chronic Lyme disease include a broad group of people who may suffer from a wide range of symptoms, some of which overlap with PTLDS, including chronic pain, fatigue. The CDC says to of people treated for Lyme disease develop ongoing symptoms. These can include fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and thinking problems. Some patients have a rash or Bell’s palsy (facial drooping).

However, although a rash shaped like a bull’s-eye is considered characteristic of Lyme disease, many people develop a different kind of Lyme rash or none at all. Untreated Lyme disease can produce a wide range of symptoms , depending on the stage of infection. These are the standard treatment for early-stage Lyme disease. These usually include doxycycline for adults and children older than or amoxicillin or cefuroxime for adults, younger children, and pregnant or breast-feeding women. However, late neurologic manifestations of Lyme disease are quite rare, and therefore, these types of non-specific symptoms usually have causes other than Lyme disease. Chronic Lyme disease (CLD) is a claimed illness, supposedly related to Lyme disease , but where no infection by Borrelia burgdorferi can be established. Some people also get other symptoms , including stiff neck, sensitivity to light, memory loss, mood changes,. Some people who experience these symptoms have been previously diagnosed with, and treated for, Lyme disease. Many Lyme disease patients report severe chronic pain, numbness and tingling, even after they have supposedly “completed” treatment for Lyme disease.

But up until recently, there hasn’t been an objective way to measure those symptoms. You had to report them to the doctor, hoping he’d take you at your word about what you were feeling. These conditions leave patients searching for to their various symptoms , but with the lack of proper treatment, they experience little success.

MS, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, CFS,. Because the typical Lyme disease diagnostic tests are so insensitive, a negative test result does not mean you don’t have Lyme. Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis—based on your medical history, symptoms and exposure to ticks. There are many reasons why someone who actually has Lyme may have a negative test result.

Lyme disease , also known as Lyme borreliosis, is an infectious disease caused by the Borrelia bacterium which is spread by ticks. The most common sign of infection is an expanding area of redness on the skin, known as erythema migrans, that appears at the site of the tick bite about a week after it occurred.
