The “baby blues” are the least severe form of postpartum depression. Approximately to of all new mothers will experience some negative feelings after giving birth. Normally these feelings occur suddenly four to five days after the birth of the baby. Postpartum depression (PPD) can occur any time during the year after you have your baby. Some experts think PPD can even pop up in the second year after having a baby.


For some women, the symptoms of PPD emerge suddenly and early, alerting them soon after they give birth that something is terribly wrong.

PPD can happen after the birth of any chil not just the first child. Symptoms include sadness, changes in sleeping and eating patterns, low energy, anxiety,. Symptoms usually start within a few weeks of delivery, though they may develop up to six months afterward. They may include mood swings, trouble bonding with your baby ,. I feel very sad and depressed. First I thought something is wrong with my marriage, but now I start to think perhaps its me.


If your doctor says you can only get postpartum depression in the first few weeks or months after birth , he or she is wrong. Most often, it rears its ugly head sometime between three and four months after the baby is born, but it wouldn’t be unusual if it showed up earlier or later.
