What is endogenous depression

What is dual depression? Endogenous depression is a type of major depressive disorder (MDD ). Although it used to be seen as a distinct disorder, endogenous depression is now rarely diagnosed. Whether depression is endogenous or exogenous , it’s almost always triggered by a life stressor.

In someone who is prone to depression due to a genetic or biochemical predisposition, a significant change, life event, or trauma can serve as a trigger that causes them to develop symptoms.

It could be caused by genetic and biological factors. Depression cannot be defined as a single disorder rather it is just like a primary name for several disorders that has almost similar kind of symptoms. But the causes may differ depends upon individual state of mind and accordingly doctors offer different treatment options. As noted above, the term endogenous depression is not used as often in the modern era. This diagnosis is something that is rarely made in modern times.

People are instead diagnosed with clinical depression. Sometimes this is colloquially referred to as MDD.

MDD is an acronym that stands for major depressive disorder. It is often identified with a specific symptom complex—psychomotor retardation, early morning awakening, weight loss, excessive guilt, and lack of reactivity to the environment—that is roughly equivalent to the symptoms of major depressive disorder. This is in contrast to exogenous depression, which is believed to be caused by a specific stressful or traumatic event or situation. In fact, most people have never heard of it.

It is one of many types of depression and it is thought to be the result of a genetic disposition. A person who suffers from endogenous depression will often exhibit similar symptoms as someone suffering from any other type of depression. It diagnosed as a mood disorder also known as clinical depression. It is a combination of genetic, biological, psychological and environmental factors.

It’s rarely diagnosed as endogenous depression now and more often diagnosed as a major depressive disorder, also known as clinical depression. A sufferer is prone to become depressed on the advent of traumatic events, exhaustion or when under high levels of stress and may not be aware. It is also believed to affect people from birth. When you have this disorder, you become prone to depression during traumatic events or under a lot of stress.

This type of disorder normally goes undetected or under treated in children and young people. It is currently diagnosed as major depressive disorder, which is also referred to as clinical depression. The person could appear anxious, have a change in sleeping patterns, a change in eating habits, show fatigue, have low self-esteem and even sudden mood changes.

How is endogenous depression treated? Based on the typical endogenous depression definition, it is simply a mood disorder that is caused genetically. While most types of depression affect people from adolescence onwards, endogenous depression may be present from as early as birth. The symptoms are triggered when an individual goes through trauma or serious stress. You don’t have to lose someone close or to encounter a life problem in order to develop endogenous depression and that’s why it was called Endo because it comes from within.

Reactive depression , see there. Exogenous depression can also be defined as situational depression or reaction-based depression. While many understand that when a person goes through a traumatic experience, there are consequences, we do not necessarily understand exactly what those consequences can entail.
