Ehlers danlos depression

Study: People with Ehlers - Danlos face increased risks for depression and other psychiatric disorders. What is the life expectancy of someone with Ehlers Danlos? Is Ehlers Danlos contagious?


Can acupuncture help with bipolar and Ehlers Danlos syndrome? Ehlers - Danlos syndrome (EDS) is an inherite lifelong and potentially disabling connective tissue disorder. The coincidence prompted us to study this association in more detail. There is evidence of a strong link between psychiatric problems and chronic pain in hEDS.


There is some limited evidence pointing towards a connection between hEDS and other psychiatric conditions but more research is needed. After a lifetime of misdiagnosis and doctors that couldn’t connect all the dots, I was properly diagnosed with Ehlers - Danlos Type or more commonly known as as HEDS and Hyper – POTS.

These disorders usually occur due to a gene mutation resulting in defects in the processing or structure of collagen. The diagnosis can be confirmed through a skin biopsy or genetic testing.


Charissa Frank is the president of the Flemish Patient Organization of Hereditary Collagen Disorders in Belgium, not only representing Ehlers – Danlos syndrome, but other disorders such as Marfan and Loeys‐Dietz as well and provides an important supportive network for patients suffering from those conditions. Other organ system involvement is common and includes musculoskeletal, digestive, cardiovascular, nervous and the immune system.
