Post menstrual syndrome

Is there a treatment for post menstrual syndrome? This is often call Post Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder. Post menstruation syndrome is defined as physical, emotional and behavioural symptoms that takes place in the one to two weeks after period has ended. During menstrual cycle, the levels of progesterone and estrogen fluctuate. This fluctuation causes post menstrual syndrome. Chemical changes in brain can also lead to post menstrual syndrome. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a health problem that is similar to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) but is more serious. PMDD causes severe irritability, depression, or anxiety in the week or two before your period starts.


Symptoms usually go away two to three days after your period starts. I usually get a little depressed after. The disorder consists of a variety of affective, behavioral and somatic symptoms that recur monthly during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.


It affects women from their early teens up until menopause, excluding those with hypothalamic amenorrhea or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

People with PMDD are at higher risk of suicide, with rates of suicidal. My anxiety ramped up big time when I went through menopause, the doctor I had said that my life time of anxiety went into high gear when my periods stopped. So I guess you could call that POST menstrual syndrome as in after the menstrual ended.
