Vomiting bile

What to do when throwing up bile? Why am I vomiting green or yellow bile? Vomiting bile can occur whenever a person throws up, and their stomach is empty.


This can happen when someone has stomach flu or food poisoning and has already thrown up all the food in their stomach. It can also happen if a person has not eaten for many hours. One of the most common reasons for vomiting bile is that you have an empty stomach.

The release of bile occurs when an individual is vomiting on an empty stomach or is suffering from bile reflux. The presence of bile in the vomit should always raise the concern.


Bile is secreted in the duodenum and passes down the gut with the rest. Certain drugs and alcohol, especially in large quantities,. This usually happens because a dog hasn’t eaten in a while or because she’s consumed an abnormally large amount of fatty foods.

The main cause of vomiting bile after drinking alcohol is the severe dehydration and irritations caused by alcohol to the stomach lining. This makes the digestive fluids ( bile ) produced in the liver back up or reflux into the stomach, along with the esophagus and into the mouth causing the person to throw up.


Sometimes, however, vomiting bile is the result of other maladies. Bile reflux, for example, is characterized by upper abdominal pain, frequent heartburn, a cough or hoarseness, weight loss and vomiting greenish-yellow bile. Gastroenteritis, commonly known as the stomach flu, can cause the body to vomit bile as the body is irritated by the virus.


Frequent vomiting caused by a stomach virus can cause the body to become dehydrate which increases the risk that bile will be included in the vomit. It causes a dog to have chronic vomiting of bile , often in the morning or late at night (2). The exact cause is unknown, but it is thought to be associated with stomach and intestinal reflux, and when the stomach is empty for long periods of time.
