Feeling depressed in pregnancy

What are the signs of depression during pregnancy? Is it normal to be depressed during pregnancy? Who is affected by depression during pregnancy?

Depression During Pregnancy: Signs, Symptoms, and Treatment. Pregnancy is supposed to be one of the happiest times of a woman’s life, but for many women, this is a time of confusion, fear, stress, and even depression. Although the responsibility of pregnancy might make some people nervous, following the proper advice can make pregnancy a rewarding experience for an expecting mother.

Regular snacks and meals can keep your blood sugar up, keeping moods stable. Avoid caffeine, sugar and processed foods, and opt instead for a diet rich in omega-fatty acids (try walnuts, fish and enriched eggs), which has been shown to lower the risk of depression during pregnancy. Traditionally most attention has been directed towards psychological problems after the pregnancy.

While most of us have heard of postnatal depression affecting mum’s ability to care for her new born, yet depression in pregnancy is more common than the postnatal kind. Feeling down in the dumps? Here are the signs to look for. It’s a time when everyone expects you to be ‘glowing’, yet if. However, it is when you start feeling sad or having thoughts of suicide or hopelessness for periods of time lasting two weeks or more that you can consider yourself actually depressed.

These feelings are not harmful to your unborn child unless you become so down that you start.

Some common terms for it are prenatal depression and perinatal depression. I’m currently weeks pregnant w my second child. I’m not a depressed or anxious person and my first pregnancy (yrs old) was a breeze. Women can experience a low mood and feel midly depressed at a time when they expect they should feel happy after having a baby. Baby blues are probably due to the sudden hormonal and chemical changes that take place in your body after childbirth.

I thought I was the only one who could actually get angry with an unborn child. My partner is becoming more and more depressed about becoming a father and I'm just plain overwelmed. This pregnancy is ruining my relationship its seems.

Im weeks pregnant and suddenly woke up feeling very depressed and tearful the last few days. Is this normal because of hormones? I feel guilty because i should be happy instead im snapping at everyone and crying all the time whats wrong with me, i feel like i just want to stay in bed all day and sleep it away. Many of the signs of depression mimic pregnancy symptoms.

It can be hard to determine what is normal fatigue in pregnancy and what is actually depression, which can lead to an under-reporting of the problem. I have been feeling very depressed lately. I feel like I am driving my husband crazy for how much I worry about different aches and pains I’m experiencing. If something is feeling wrong I call him at work and just let him know in the hope of some support or advice. Pregnant with DC weeks on, and I must admit I am feeling very depressed.
