Christians and depression

It’s not complicated just because the illnesses themselves are so complex, manifesting themselves in myriad ways, but also because perspectives about mental disorders vary greatly throughout the Church.

Depression makes it hard to choose the “right Christian things. I didn’t usually trust Go make a gratitude list or even recite prayers and Scripture. I wish I had done those things. I was Earle’s “dream girl,” a former cheerleader. Millions of people, including Christians , suffer from depression every day. Very often, men manifest depression through anger and aggression. If depression is not properly and urgently addressed by the Christian, with the solutions to one’s problems being sought in the Word of God (whenever possible), the tragic situation can result in spiritual stagnation, overt apostasy from the faith, and sometimes, even suicide.


For far too long Christians have said they believe in grace, but when it comes to worry, anxiety and even depression we rely on works. This Sunday at NewSpring Church I am going to talk about ONE THING that EVERY person can do (Christian and non-Christian) that is the first step towards healing. When you are born again, God takes up residence in your spirit. He brings with Him the promise of great joy and peace, sometimes immediately.

When it comes to the Christian relationship in overcoming anxiety, many people see turning to God as a valuable tool for gaining strength against anxiety disorders, and use their religion as their primary source of coping. Not an oxymoron, but a reality and it’s ok. The Bible shows us many examples of christians and depression.


God led them out of it and he can lead me out of it, too. He can walk with you through it, too, my friend. Give them hope that you will stick with them, that you won’t drop them. Clinical depression ’s prevalence is on the rise in the United States. Find spiritually hope and encouragement for Christians battling depression.
