What is depression and anxiety like

What does anxiety and depression feel like? What to do when depression and anxiety mix? What are the signs that you are severely depressed?

Depression and anxiety are like flip sides of the same coin, says therapist Nancy B. Being depressed often makes us anxious, and anxiety often makes us depressed.

If it turns out that you have both conditions, there are lots of ways to get help. Anxiety can cause physical symptoms like pain , a pounding heart or stomach cramps. For some people these physical symptoms are their main concern. Anxiety can also affect other areas of your life – like your ability to cope, perform at work (mahi), and can affect your relationships with friends and whānau.

Having depression and anxiety is like being scared and tired at the same time. It is the fear of failure yet having no urge to be productive. It is wanting friends but hating socializing.

It is caring about everything and nothing at the same time. Depression is not caring about anything at all, and anxiety is caring too much. And having both, ironically, is a nightmare. You want to leave everything behind and sleep, yet you overthink anxiously about everything you didn’t or have to do. For me, my mind is split into two halves.

Sleep problems, trouble concentrating, and fatigue are all symptoms of both anxiety and depression. Irritability may also manifest in forms of anxiety or depression (in place of low mood). There are however, some distinguishing features. People with depression move slowly, and their reactions can seem flattened or dulled.

But each disorder has its own causes and its own emotional and behavioral symptoms. Many people who develop depression have a history of an anxiety disorder earlier in life. Well depression and Anxiety go hand in hand. And depression can trigger anxiety as well! Depression feels like blackness that is swallowing your friends, your life, and yourself.

If you are depresse share this with your loved ones to help them understand.

It can cause long-lasting and severe feelings of sadness , hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities. It can also cause physical symptoms of pain , appetite changes, and sleep problems. Anxiety may occur as a symptom of clinical (major) depression. Many people have a diagnosis of both an anxiety disorder and clinical depression. Living with depression feels like you’re in a dark hole with nowhere to go.

Depression takes away all of your motivation and drive to do anything, but anxiety makes you want to constantly do that activity. Especially with anxiety , more so than depression , there often is some family history, and so therefore we think that there may be some genetic predisposition to this, Connolly explains. Though again, there are similarities. Both anxiety and depression can leave you feeling drained and fatigued. But in the case of anxiety , it tends to occur after intense anxiety , while with depression it tends to be more constant, without necessarily any triggers.

If the fear becomes overwhelming, disruptive, and way out.
