Happy depression

The definition of smiling depression is: appearing happy to others, literally smiling, while internally suffering with depressive symptoms. Smiling depression often goes undetected. Their public life is usually “put together,” maybe even what some. Being happy despite depression doesn’t mean I’m happy to have depression. That’s about as ridiculous as saying someone who smiles during treatment for a physical illness is happy to have it.


The truth is, I’m not happy with my life… at all.

Nothing inside of me wants to continue living a life riddled with anxiety and consumed by depression and trauma. I think about death on a regular basis, yet I’m not technically suicidal. I have those few genuine moments in which my laugh or smile is real.


Something good happened that you wish would happen more often. It wears off within a few days or so, and is nothing that will last. For over years, I have struggled with chronic depression. Along with diet and exercise, working with medical professionals, and developing healthy relationships with others, I have learned that inspired words can be a powerful tool in fighting depression. For while medicines can heal the body, inspired words can heal the soul.
