Depression feels like flu

But today, for me, it kind of feels like the flu. The way we feel when we are physically sick is caused by the products of inflammation that result from the interaction between the flu virus and the body’s defense mechanisms. To see if anxiety might be playing a role in your anxiety symptoms, rate your level of anxiety using our free one-minute instant Anxiety Test or Anxiety Disorder Test. Many describe the experience as agonizing isolation or numbness.

Depression Survivors Describe What It Really Feels Like.

The miserable collection of symptoms includes lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, sleepiness, loss of appetite, and general. Flu and depression are always been associated with one another. A person who is feeling down is more likely to contract the flu virus, because the body, just like the min feels down and the energy levels are not as high as they should be. A depressed mind makes the body depressed as well, and the immune response is significantly weaker.

The flu like symptoms that people with anxiety report are symptoms like : fatigue, muscle tension, muscle aches and pains, diarrhea and vomiting. A number of studies have tried to examine whether inflammation in the body can actually trigger depression. It can cause long-lasting and severe feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities.

But you also should take normal precautions for preventing the flu and other infectious diseases, because it really could be the flu. Get the annual seasonal flu vaccine to reduce your risk. According to a study by the National Comorbidity Survey, both occur simultaneously of the time.

A person who is depressed and anxious not only feels sad but also loses the ability to take pleasure in life while feeling tense, irritable and agitated. I also had massive headaches, pain at the base of the head and a sore jaw. My dentist identified the cause of the jaw pain. I was clenching my teeth when I was asleep.

The remedy was a small mouth-guard- like aid I used when I was sleeping, and reduced the power of my jaws to clench. At times it’s confusing, exhausting, and painful. But it’s not like having the flu. It certainly doesn’t feel like two broken legs.

Nor is it comparable to cancer. This seems to work in two ways. People who struggle with depression sometimes have minutes, hours, or days when things feel real again and they can see a glimpse of what it feels like not to be depressed.

Every now and then the clouds would clear, and it was like I was alive again. My depression feels 1times worse and I’m super lonely.

I see my psychiatrist on Monday and I’m just thinking like what am I going to. It feels like being semi-paralysed with fear and panic. Which, not surprisingly, makes diagnosing depression tricky, and thereby finding the right treatment a big. Having a cold or the flu also seems to make my side effects worse. There’s an increase in things like dizziness and nausea when you have a cold or the flu which is normal, but it compounds what it already there thanks to the meds.

Thank you for expressing it so well. How do you explain what depression feels like to someone who’s never had it? Start with the obvious. The name “ depression ” is literal.

It depresses a person’s ability to function and feel their full scope of emotions, starting with the positive and working down into the negative. If you are running a higher than normal temperature, then you have an infection of some kind. Your immune system is still recovering from its battle against the flu virus, which require the unleashing of chemicals called cytokines.

Now cytokines have a good cup, bad cup effect.
