Can self hate and self doubt cause depression? Can hate really lead to depression? How to overcome self-loathing? Do depressed people use their depression to manipulate others?


In each case, the self is despised for one reason or another that varies from person to person and usually or always smacks of hidden perfectionism. Accepting who we are instead of wishing to something or someone else, this is the road to compassion. It means ending self hatred. Part of the way to end self hatred is to identify the illusions that you cling to. A big problem for some suffering from shyness or social anxiety is that they not only have a tendency to blame themselves, but they self-exile themselves from others (even if they’re physically around other people at a social function, they can be mentally withdrawn from the conversation).


Depression can perpetuate a mindset of self -loathing and constant negative introspection. The journey in life can, of course, be easier or more difficult depending on our biological, psychological and social blueprint which provides both risk and protective factors. I can tell he is frustrated with himself and bored as he gets quite angry at times, but he is not willing to accept any help at all or do anything to help himself.


Self - hatred tells us that we are not capable and will likely fail or fall short—and this type of thinking can make goals, desires, and dreams feel distant and impossible. You may look at others and think they are getting it right, while you suffer from constant self -critical statements. For most of us, the expression “you are your own worst enemy” holds a lot of truth.


It’s a painful reality that much of what limits us in our lives is our own feelings of unworthiness and self-hatred. I hate myself” is a fairly common thought.
