Distinct periods of sadness are interspersed with feelings of joy and happiness in caring for the new baby.

Other pre-existing medical conditions.


Lack of social or family support. Low socioeconomic status. When the baby blues intensify and persist for more than a couple of weeks, then you have the postpartum depression. With postpartum depression, mothers get strong feelings of sadness, anxiety, and fatigue. Depression after pregnancy is called postpartum depression or peripartum depression.


Signs and symptoms of postpartum depression Unlike baby blues , symptoms of postpartum depression are more intense and last longer than two weeks. They may even interfere with your ability to complete daily tasks or care for your baby. Within first few weeks of giving birth but may begin later.
